Most of the Rattlers’ injuries have come on defense this year.

It’s been weekly patchwork for coach Kevin Guy to find eight guys who can band together and make enough stops to not force Nick Davila to have to throw nine touchdown passes a game.

With the return of Jeremy Kellem, the heart of their secondary, the Rattlers are feeling a little more complete heading into a rare home game Saturday at 6 p.m. against the Portland Steel at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

The Steel are coming off a 68-35 victory over the Tampa Bay Storm, who beat the Rattlers 63-56 against a secondary of all first-year players two week ago.

This is only the Rattlers’ fourth home game.

“It’s good to be reunited,” said cornerback Marquis Floyd, who joined the Rattlers partway through this season to help out Guy with a depleted secondary. When 6 p.m. TV: FSAZ Plus. Prediction: Rattlers 65, Steel 47.

It didn’t appear the Rattlers would have either Floyd or Kellem at all this season when neither were at training camp.

Floyd had moved back home to Georgia and figured he played his last Arena Football League game in last year’s National Conference Championsh­ip game against the San Jose SaberCats.

Kellem, who had 14 intercepti­ons and was the AFL’s Defensive Back of the Year last season, made the hit that jarred the ball loose from receiver Reggie Gray as he was going into the end zone in the waning moments of that championsh­ip game.
