Recreation area fire restrictions are in effect
Hot, dry weather and increased fire danger have resulted in restrictions being implemented in several parks, national forests and other areas in the state.
Closures
Three areas in
are closed because of firefighting activity.
The area around the Jack Fire, east of Lake Mary Road and south of Hutch Mountain. This closure includes the Happy Jack Passage of the Arizona Trail in the area.
The area around the Pivot Rock Fire, north of Pine and Strawberry and southwest of Clover Canyon.
The reservoir is closed. Forest Road 751 to the reservoir is closed at Rock Crossing Campground.
Stage 1 restrictions
In these areas, fires are permitted only in grills or fire rings in developed campgrounds. Smoking is prohibited except in buildings and vehicles.
Cave Creek, Mesa, Payson, Pleasant Valley and Tonto Basin ranger districts; Bartlett Lake and Lower Verde recreation areas. Stage 1 restrictions take effect Wednesday, June 15.
Wood- or charcoalburning devices are allowed on the shore where vegetation is at least 100 feet away. Grills are allowed on boats outside Lake Mead and Lake Mohave harbors. Boat grills must be at least 100 feet away from vegetation. Smoking is allowed in areas that are clear of flammable material for at least 3 feet. Discard smoking materials in ashtrays only.
Around the Valley
Open fires are prohibited in Phoenix desert and mountain preserves: Camelback Mountain, Papago Park, the Phoenix Mountains, South Mountain Park/Preserve, North Mountain and surrounding areas, the Sonoran Preserve and the Deem Hills area.
The ban is expected to run through mid-October. It does not apply to traditional city parks. www.fire restrictions.us/az.
