No. 10 Wisconsin goes on the road, routs No. 8 Michigan State in Big Ten opener

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Leo Musso returned a fumble 66 yards for a touchdown and No. 10 Wisconsin turned its early-season showdown with No. 8 Michigan State into a rout, beating the Spartans 30-6 on Saturday.

Redshirt freshman Alex Hornibrook threw for 195 yards and a touchdown in his first start for Wisconsin, outplaying fifth-year senior Tyler O’Connor, his Michigan State counterpar­t. The Badgers (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) were the better team in the first half and then outscored the Spartans 17-0 in the third quarter. At No. 21 Mississipp­i 45, No. 11 Georgia 14: Chad Kelly threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead Mississipp­i over Georgia.

At No. 1 Alabama 48, Kent St. 0: Jalen Hurts ran and passed for a touchdown and tailback sub Joshua Jacobs scored his first two career touchdowns in Alabama’s win over Kent State. No. 4 Louisville 59, at Marshall 28: Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown passes, ran for two more scores and Louisville breezed past Marshall. At No. 5 Michigan 49, Penn St. 10: De’Veon Smith led an overwhelmi­ng ground game with 107 yards rushing and a touchdown and Karan Higdon ran for two scores and Michigan routed Penn State in both teams’ Big Ten opener. No. 7 Houston 64, at Texas State 3: D’Eriq King caught a touchdown pass, threw for a TD and returned a kickoff for another score and Houston cruised to a

victory over Texas State to remain undefeated. At No. 12 Tennessee 38, No. 16 Florida 28: Joshua Dobbs accounted for five second-half touchdowns and Tennessee erased a 21-point deficit to beat Florida and end its 11-game losing streak in the annual series. No. 13 Texas A&M 45, No. 18 Arkansas 24: Trevor Knight had two long touchdowns before halftime and threw a 92-yard pass to Josh Reynolds right after Arkansas was stopped three times from the 1, and Texas A&M beat the Razorbacks. Florida 35: Dalvin Cook rushed for a career-high 267 yards and two touchdowns as Florida State rebounded from the most lopsided loss in school history with a rout of previously unbeaten South Florida.

At No. 15 Baylor 35, Oklahoma State 24: Seth Russell threw four touchdown passes and Baylor held on to beat Oklahoma State.

Auburn 18, at No. 17 LSU 13: Daniel Carlson kicked six field goals and Auburn LSU after officials ruled Danny Etling’s apparent last-gasp scoring pass came after time expired. No. 20 Nebraska 24, at Northweste­rn 13: Tommy Armstrong Jr. threw for 246 yards and ran for a career-high 132 to lead Nebraska to a victory over Northweste­rn in the Big Ten opener.

No. 25 Iowa 14, at Rutgers 7: Akrum Wadley scored on 26-yard run on the play after Iowa’s defense forced a turnover deep in Rutgers’ territory and the Hawkeyes rebounded from their stunning loss to North Dakota State with a victory over tougher-than-expected Rutgers.

Duke 38, at Notre Dame 35: AJ Reed kicked a 19-yard field goal with 84 seconds left as Duke rallied back from an early two-touchdown deficit to beat Notre Dame.

At West Virginia 35, BYU 32: Skyler Howard accounted for two touchdowns and Rasul Douglas returned an intercepti­on 54 yards for a score as West Virginia beat BYU.
