Miles scores 23 points to lead West Virginia over Iowa State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Daxter Miles Jr. tied a career high with 23 points to lead No. 10 West Virginia to an 87-76 victory over No. 24 Iowa State on Friday night.

Nathan Adrian added 16 points for the Mountainee­rs (24-7, 12-6 Big 12), who clinched the second seed in next week’s conference tournament behind top-ranked Kansas.

Iowa State (20-10, 12-6) can earn the third seed if No. 11 Baylor loses at Texas on Saturday.

No. 21 Wichita State 82, Bradley 56 at St. Louis: Darral Willis Jr. scored 17 points and Rashard Kelly added 14 as Wichita State overpowere­d Bradley for a victory in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament quarterfin­als.

The second-seeded Shockers (28-4) shook off a slow start to beat Bradley (13-20) for the 16th straight time. Bradley, the No. 7 seed, hasn’t beaten Wichita State since Feb. 24, 2010.

Darrell Brown led Bradley with 18 points, and Antoine Pittman had 13.

Women’s Top 10

No. 3 Notre Dame 76, Virginia 59 at Conway, S.C.: Arike Ogunbowale scored 19 points and Brianna Turner added 16 to help Notre Dame beat Virginia in the quarterfin­als of the ACC tournament.

Lindsay Allen had 12 points and 10 assists, breaking the conference’s all-time assist record, for the top-seeded Irish (28-3). Notre Dame will face No. 14 Louisville on Saturday in the semifinals.

No. 4 Maryland 92, Minnesota 80 at Indianapol­is: Shatori WalkerKimb­rough made six 3pointers and scored 28 points as Maryland advanced to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.

Kaila Charles added 15 points and Brionna Jones had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Maryland (27-2), which hit 11 3pointers and scored 28 points off 19 Gophers turnovers.

No. 5 South Carolina 72, Georgia 48 at Greenville, S.C.: Southeaste­rn Conference player of the year A’ja Wilson scored 18 points and South Carolina opened its quest for a third straight SEC Tournament title with a victory over Georgia.

The top-seeded Gamecocks (25-4) played without SEC first-team pick Alaina Coates, who sat out with a right ankle injury.

No. 6 Mississipp­i State 78, LSU 61 at Greenville, S.C.: Teaira McCowan scored 13 of her 15 points in the final 13 minutes and Mississipp­i State beat LSU to reach the SEC Tournament semifinals for the second consecutiv­e season.

No. 16 Miami 56, No. 8 Florida State 54 at Conway, S.C.: Keyona Hayes and Adrienne Motley each scored 12 points to help Miami hold off Florida State in the ACC Tournament quarterfin­als.

No. 9 Ohio State 99, Northweste­rn 68 at Indianapol­is: Kelsey Mitchell made six 3-pointers and finished with 27 points to lead No. 9 Ohio State to a win over Northweste­rn in the quarterfin­als of the Big Ten Tournament.
