Fry’s hiring to fill 1,000 jobs

Positions open as grocery chain adds more stores, expands shopping services

With an upcoming Fry’s opening in north Phoenix, the company will have 123 Arizona locations. It opened six Arizona stores last year. Also helping the company grow is an online grocery-ordering service, “ClickList,” that features curbside pickup.

Fry’s Food Stores is seeking to hire more than 1,000 people in Arizona as the retailer adds more stores and shopping services.

The company, a division of supermarke­t giant Kroger Co., is hoping to add both full-time and part-time workers. The positions range from department managers and pharmacy technician­s to clerks, night stockers, chefs, wine stewards and cheese specialist­s. College degrees or strong grocery experience is required for some full-time management positions. Many positions include benefits such as medical insurance, retirement incentives, paid vacation, tuition assistance and product discounts.

Kroger employs more than 21,000 people in Arizona, making it the third largest non-government employer in the state, according to the Republic 100 special report now being compiled by the The Arizona Republic. Most Kroger stores in Arizona operate under the Fry’s name, with some Smith’s Food & Drug Stores along the Colorado River.

Examples of pay include $10 an hour for entry-level jobs for people with no experience, $12.55 an hour for pharmacy technician­s, $17.77 an hour for certified wine stewards and $51,500 yearly for employees who complete a management-training program.
