Nothing tastes as good to parents as free. So, here’s a heaping helping of free. Put your wallet away and enjoy a day out with the kids this March 2017 in metro Phoenix. Choose from free hikes, an animated movie, an afternoon in the wild west or a chance to see and make art.

March 10: Family Moonlight Hike

Look for scorpions and other desert creatures in the desert under moonlight during this 1.5-mile hike along the Black Rock Long Loop Trail. Wear closed toe shoes. No pets. Meet at Area 4 for the walk.

March 10-12: Arizona Wild West Fest

Arizona Wild West Fest returns with activities for the whole family. This town wide event features a wide range of activities that include Battle in the Saddle bull-riding, the Kickin’ ‘n Pickin’ western battle of the bands, Guns of Archery gunfighter performanc­e competitio­n and more.

March 11: Ride-in Movies at the Park: The Secret Life of Pets

Ride-in Movies at the Park returns for its monthly movie. This months movie is “The Secret Life of Pets.” Pedestrian­s are encouraged to ride their bikes or walk to the park where they can picnic and watch a free movie. Popcorn will also be provided at the event. Movies are subject to change or cancellati­on. Stay up-to-date on the movie informatio­n via their website.

The newly opened Animal Medical Center of Surprise is hosting a free pet party, with vendors offering free dental chews, flea and tick prevention production­s and expert advice on obesity prevention, prescripti­on diets, heartworm prevention and pet training. The day also includes free pet exams for pet owners who schedule an appointmen­t, free food from Jimmy Johns and pet adoptions from Ruby Ranch Pet Rescue and No Paws Left Behind.

March 11-12: 23rd Annual Aloha Festival

Come celebrate the many cultures of the South Pacific Islands at the Aloha Festival. The free family event features performers and artists, along with Keiki Make’n’Take Ac-

tivities for the kids, Aunty Aloha’s Ukulele Corner where you can try your hand at the ukulele, the Discovery Stage and more. The festival also features tasty traditiona­l foods and a marketplac­e filled with 120 booths selling traditiona­l and island lifestyle items.
