LOS ANGELES - Coyotes goalie Louis Domingue’s new red pads saw their first game action Tuesday and if a career-high 44-save introduction through regulation and overtime wasn’t enough, an 11-round shootout seemed to break in the gear as the pads appeared to be working comfortably for Domingue. “Yeah, they were,” he said. Domingue and Kings goalie Ben Bishop’s duel spilled over to extra time before defenseman Anthony DeAngelo solved the stalemate in the Coyotes’ 11th attempt — sealing a 3-2 rally at Staples Center that secured the team’s second three-game win streak of the season.

“I’m confident in my ability in the shootout, and I’m confident in our team to score goals,” Domingue said. “Usually we do it faster, but it took a little longer today but it gave a good show.”

Both teams scored in Round 1 with center Jeff Carter wristing the puck by Domingue before winger Brendan Perlini pushed a backhand by Bishop.

The Kings sent out captain Anze Kopitar, Tyler Toffoli, Jarome Iginla, Marian Gaborik and Tanner Pearson. All were stopped. So were Nic Dowd, Dustin Brown and Adrian Kempe – all pad saves by Domingue.

“Louis was hot there,” winger Max Domi said. “We had a feeling it was going to eventually go our way.”

The Coyotes, though, were striking out just as much.

Winger Radim Vrbata, the NHL record-holder for most shootout goals (45), had his trademark backhand move blocked by Bishop. Domi was also turned aside. Same with Anthony Duclair, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Christian Dvorak, Jakob Chychrun, Peter Holland and Tobias Rieder.

“I was looking down at Smitty (goalie Mike Smith),” said Tippett, who explained he was looking for a dark horse like former defenseman Adrian Aucoin had been in 2009-10. “I was telling Smitty, ‘Give me your suggestions.’ But you just kind of (go off) a little bit of a feel.”

Next up, in Round 10, defenseman Drew Doughty was stopped before Bishop, who racked up 30 saves before the shootout, snuffed out captain Shane Doan.

For Try No. 11, the Kings tabbed Trevor Lewis, who was also unsuccessful. But DeAngelo wasn’t, as he ripped a shot by Bishop.

“Somebody had to win it, so I’ll take it,” DeAngelo said.
