Dodgers 13, Diamondbacks 6

- Bob McManaman

On the mound: LHP Andrew Chafin, getting the start because Arizona wanted lefty Patrick Corbin to skip the Dodgers, pitched an easy enough first inning but ran into trouble in the second. He was charged with three earned runs off two hits and two walks. He also struck out two batters. RHP Zack Godley allowed one run in 1 2/3 innings with three hits and a walk. RHP Kevin Jepsen allowed the go-ahead run in the fourth when he threw a wild pitch and the Dodgers’ Scott Van Slyke raced home from third, tumbling over a diving Jepsen at the plate. J.J. Hoover and Tom Wilhelmsen, who are eyeing a spot in the bullpen, each threw a scoreless inning. In all, nine pitchers combined to walk eight batters and throw three wild pitches. As for Corbin, he along with fellow pitchers Randall Delgado and Fernando Rodney and catcher Jeff Mathis, played in an “in-camp” game Friday with Arizona minor leaguers. At the plate: CF A.J. Pollock, back in the lineup for the first time since suffering groin tightness 12 days earlier, went 0 for 2 with a walk. He was lifted for a pinch runner after drawing a base on balls in the fourth. Minor leaguer Reymond Fuentes, starting in left field, went 3 for 4 with a solo home run and two singles, the first of which drove in the first run on the game. Extra bases: Manager Torey Lovullo officially named his starting rotation but wasn’t ready to formally announce his Opening Day lineup or batting order just yet. Asked specifically about his batting order, he said: “I believe in maximizing your opportunities to score runs, first and foremost. But I also know there’s a certain consistency that players like to have when it comes to familiarity, so I will use all considerations and go from there. It’s easy to say that we have some built-in spots for certain guys right now and you’re seeing that. That’s probably going to be my starting point and we’ll just see how it goes from there.” Lovullo said OF Yasmany Tomas (back) is progressing and might possibly get into a game as early as this weekend if all is well. Saturday’s game: Diamondbacks RHP Taijuan Walker vs. Angels LHP Tyler Skaggs, 1:05 p.m., Tempe Diablo Stadium. –
