MCFARLAND TO STEP DOWN, SERVE AS AMBASSADOR

President Trump will ask K.T. McFarland to step down as deputy national security adviser and serve instead as ambassador to Singapore, giving national security adviser H.R. McMaster a chance to pick his own lieutenant, Trump officials confirmed.

The officials confirmed a report by Bloomberg Politics and spoke on the condition of anonymity because they’re not authorized to discuss personnel moves.

There have been questions about the future of McFarland, a former Fox News commentato­r, since the dismissal of Trump’s first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, the retired threestar general who hired her.

TEEN ID’D AS SUSPECT IN NORWAY EXPLOSIVE CASE

A 17-year-old asylum-seeker from Russia was arrested Sunday in connection with an explosive device found near a busy subway station in Norway’s capital that police defused before it detonated, authoritie­s said.

The youth was detained on suspicion of handling explosives, but investigat­ors do not know if he planned to carry out an attack with the homemade device, Signe Aaling, chief prosecutor for Norway’s PST security service, said.

Aaling described it as “a primitive improvised explosive device with limited damage potential.”

Somalia’s new military chief survived a suicide car bomb attack Sunday just moments after he was sworn in with a mandate to launch a new offensive against Islamic extremists. Thirteen people were killed in the attack.

Gen. Mohamed Ahmed Jimale was traveling in a convoy with senior military officials when the bomb exploded near Somalia’s defense ministry compound in Mogadishu, police say.

Five soldiers and at least eight civilians traveling in a passing minibus were killed, said Capt. Mohamed Hussein, a senior Somali police officer.
