Pat’s Run:
Saturday is the 13th running of the main fundraiser for the Pat Tillman Foundation.
The 4.2-mile course winds around the streets of Tempe and ends on the 42-yard line of the Sun Devil Stadium.
It’s the signature fundraising event of the Pat Tillman Foundation, which invests in military veterans and their spouses through academic scholarships. The foundation is named after the man who gave up his spot on the Arizona Cardinals football team to serve with the Army Rangers. Tillman died in the line of duty in 2004.
“While Pat was here, he touched and impacted so many lives, both on and off the field and in the classroom. He led by example, and now his legacy lives on through our 460 Tillman Scholars, who are making their mark,” said Jill Walsh, the foundation’s communications manager. “This year, we will have 75 Tillman Scholars from all over the country participating in both Pat’s Run in Tempe as well as our 30-plus Tillman Honor Runs nationwide.”
4-part medal collector series
New this year to the run is a special finisher’s medal for every participant who completes the 4.2-mile run. It’s the first in a four-part collector’s series.
Each of the medals will feature a theme. This year’s theme is camo, which can be seen on the ribbon. It matches the race shirts.
And for the first time, there will be a post-race party sponsored by Dog Tag Brewing, featuring beer and music. Participants who are over 21 can toast to Tillman and visit with Tillman Scholars.
Participants can also earn exclusive Tillman gear and prizes by raising funds for the foundation based on their run.
