A 2-year-old boy is now the only one in his family to survive a crash that occurred in Phoenix last week.

Phoenix police reported Saturday night that 8year-old Shihada Lewis, who was riding in the back seat with the boy, had died. The crash also killed Reshad Lewis, 34, and Nickole Lambert, 25, who were riding in the front of the vehicle. The boy, whose name police have not released, was reported to be in serious but stable condition.

At 4:40 p.m. Thursday, Phoenix police responded to a two-vehicle crash south of the intersecti­on of 32nd Street and Paradise Lane. Police said the sedan was driving southbound on 32nd Street at a “higher than normal” speed when it entered the two-way left-turn lane and crashed head-on with a pickup truck. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

Phoenix shooting leaves man, 60, dead

A 60-year-old man died after a shooting Saturday night in Phoenix, authoritie­s said.

Shortly before 9 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting near 15th Avenue and Van Buren Street, said Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, a Phoenix police spokeswoma­n.

A man was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died, she said.

When police arrived, Fortune said, witnesses told them three or four men were arguing in an alley nearby when they heard a gunshot. No other details were available.

Boat fire on Lake Pleasant injures 4

A boat fire at Lake Pleasant left four people injured Sunday, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

The boat caught fire after refueling, leaving one 50-year-old man with burns on about 70 percent of his body, according to officials. He was flown to a hospital in critical condition. A 30-year-old man suffered minor burns, the MCSO said.

Tim Eiden of the Peoria Fire Department said the fire happened at the Scorpion Bay fuel dock, where there was an explosion.

Two others were at the marina and were treated for smoke inhalation, Eiden said.

2-vehicle crash kills 63-year-old woman

A 63-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning when the vehicle she was riding in was struck in a T-bone crash in west Phoenix, officials said.

Rosa Gonzales Sanchez was a passenger in a black Hyundai Accent when it made a left turn near 75th Avenue and Van Buren Street and was hit on its passenger side by a green Jeep Grand Cherokee, Phoenix police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said.

Gonzales Sanchez was taken to a hospital but died there, Fortune said. According to Fortune, the vehicle carrying Gonzales Sanchez was driven by a 73-year-old man who suffered serious injures. The other vehicle was driven by an 18-year-old man; impairment was not determined to be a factor.

Teacher arrested on student sex charges

A Tempe middlescho­ol teacher was arrested on suspicion of having sexual encounters with a 13-year-old student, Tempe police said.

Kara Loofboroug­h, 26, was arrested Thursday, according to police spokesman Aaron Levi. Police say she told them she showed her genitalia to the teen while video azcentral.com. chatting and allowed him to kiss and touch her breasts during one inperson encounter.

Police contacted her after receiving a call Wednesday from the boy’s father, who was concerned about conversati­ons his son had with his teacher, police said.

According to Loofboroug­h’s Facebook page under the name Kara Lufbra, she was a seventh-grade science teacher at Fees College Preparator­y Middle School. It appears she was listed on that school’s staff directory but has been removed.

According to police, the student said Loofboroug­h showed him her breasts and genitalia via cellphone and online video chats.

Loofboroug­h was arrested on suspicion of furnishing harmful items to a minor, indecent exposure and luring a minor for sexual exploitati­on.
