Memorial Day weekend events range from solemn to festive.

From solemn remembranc­e events to family-friendly festivals involving barbecue and bunting, the Valley serves up many ways to enjoy the long Memorial Day weekend.

5/26-29: Memorial Day weekend at Lake Pleasant

Memorial Day weekend at Lake Pleasant is viewed by many as the kick-off to summer. Pleasant Harbor Marina and RV Resort will have camping and a club house with a pool, in addition to a full-service marina all weekend. Guests can rent boats, jet skis, kayaks and more to soak in the sun. Memorial Day weekend activities include a daily boat cruise, dive-in movie, a sunset music cruise, live entertainm­ent, a farmers market, a bonfire, and a cornhole tournament. A Memorial Day breakfast will be served at Dillon’s Bayou Restaurant & Bar on Monday.

5/26: Star Spangled Celebratio­n in Laveen

The Star Spangled Celebratio­n is a free community event honoring veterans, police and firefighte­rs who died in the line of duty. The event features informatio­nal booths, children’s activities, police and fire demonstrat­ions, live music, a bike rodeo and a fireworks show. Proceeds from the event will benefit non-profits.
