I’ve grown weary of all the fighting in our country

-

I am 72 and I am very dispirited. I have spent most of my life believing that human beings should work together to make the world a decent place for all of us to live. Instead, we are moving toward destroying everything around us including each other.

It doesn’t seem that we are strong enough to sort out our differences. We feel anger before we feel compromise. We cannot look into each others eyes and see ourselves. We don’t see love and trust. We see hate and feel suspicion.

I am so tired of listening to the fighting. It is the same news every day — two sides working against each other instead of two sides moving toward each other. It has worn me down.

Regardless, I will continue to believe that we should take care of one another and not spend our energy believing the acquisition of wealth is our primary motivation for being.

We should embrace humankind, not shun those who have a different culture or a different color. We must come together in this world or we will certainly come apart.

Why is it so difficult for some to extend kindness, to reach out to one another in acceptance, to embrace those with a different mindset, to move forward with love in one’s heart and show grace.

Alvin Vasicek, Arizona’s victory against DACA students will prove an empty one

Attorney General Mark Brnovich, on my way home Tuesday, I ran into one of my former students working at a local McDonald’s.

She was excited to tell me that it was her last week working there. She informed me that she was getting close to finishing her business degree and had just landed a job at a local business.

I was feeling happy for her, until I arrived home and turned on my computer. That’s when I saw the ruling regarding DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) students and tuition. I now wonder if she will be able to complete her college education.

Your win in the latest ruling against DACA students is short-sighted. Your choice to appeal the case was a bad one. Granting DACA students in-state tuition only helps our state. It enables these students to become more productive which will generate more tax revenue.

Please don’t try to hide behind the feeble justification that the appeal was the “will of the voters.” Your expression of sympathy towards DACA students rings hollow.

Hopefully, you will be voted out of office by the “will of the voters” next election Here is the answer to the question:
