5 questions for preseason practice

Asked last week about his concerns entering Tuesday's first football practice, Arizona State coach Todd Graham didn't hesitate.

"I really don't have a lot of concerns," he said. "... The thing I'm most confident about is this team and the investment that they have made. I've been very impressed."

That's not to say the Sun Devils enter the season without questions. Far from it. Coming off two losing seasons, many of the questions have been here for some time.

Five to ponder:

Is Graham coaching for his job?

Graham understand­s this.

Hot-seat lists mostly are created for internet clicks, based on speculatio­n and nothing more. But ASU may have sent a message this summer by not extending Graham’s contract from four to five years, a formality in previous years. That increases the pressure in Tempe, adding fuel to a storyline that likely will not go away.

Who wins the quarterbac­k battle?

Can the defense be fixed?

Provided he builds off last year, Harry could be among the Pac-12’s most electric playmakers. Much will depend on his work habits and drive. Last season Harry may have taken defenses by surprise. That won’t happen again.
