‘He didn’t deserve this’: Mother talks about her son’s unsolved murdered

- ADRIAN MARSH

As Martina Anzar headed to bed one night in April, she felt like she heard her only son scream. He wasn’t home at the time.

A short time later, she got a news update on her phone about a man being shot. She knew instantly that it was her son, 28-yearold Victor Adam Galindo Jr.

Galindo was shot and killed at 9 p.m. April 6 in an apartment parking lot near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix after getting into an argument with two men.

Anzar sat down with Phoenix police Saturday to talk about her son and urge anyone with information on the shooter to come forward.

“He was known by everybody and everybody loved him,” Anzar said. “He wasn’t a bad kid - he wasn’t a good kid, but he didn’t deserve this.”

Galindo had two young children, a 6year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter.

He was shot the day after his son’s birthday, according to Anzar.

“I know his children are going through a lot because I, as a parent and an adult, am going through a lot,” she said. “I know they’re probably in shock and probably block it out, but getting justice and getting through counseling is what’s going to get us through, I guess.”

Anzar is learning to live without him day by day, but at least she has two pieces of him left - his children. She said she has to be strong and go on for her grandchildren.

The thing she will miss most about Galindo is when he would call her early in the morning saying, “Mama!” She knew he either needed money for the bus or just wanted to tell her he loved her.

She said there are many people who live in the apartment complex where Galindo was shot. She said she understands why they may be reluctant to come forward with information, but said as long as they keep quiet they are going to have to continue to put up with the shootings, violence and hiding their children.

“I’m constantly looking for the vehicle,” she said. “I don’t go out of my house because I’m afraid I’m going to run into seeing him.”

According to Sgt. Jamie Rothschild with Silent Witness, the shooter is a man in his 20s. The vehicle is a 2012 or 2013 Chevy Malibu that is light in color, possibly grey, silver or beige, a Silent Witness media release said.

Anyone with information on the shooter is asked to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness. Callers can remain anonymous.

“Please let the police department know because, I mean, he is somebody’s son, somebody’s dad, somebody’s brother,” Anzar said.
