Virga "Virgie" Mae Davis, age 90, of Berthoud, Colorado, formerly of Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona, passed away at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. She was born on July 14, 1927, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Carl A. Rankin and Lillian Mae (Morton) Rankin. Her childhood was spent in Colorado. In 1941, Virgie first met the love of her life, Richard, in Bell, California. After Richard was discharged from the Army in 1946, they re-met again in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Virgie and her mother moved from Colorado to California in 1946. From that time forward, Virgie and Richard started their courtship. They married in a Long Beach, California wedding chapel on February 14, 1948. Virgie worked for a telephone company for a short period of time. They lived in various places in California, a brief time in Medford, Oregon, then back to Stockton, California. Their children were both born in California. A job offer for her husband, Richard, brought them to Phoenix, Arizona in 1957. Virgie prided herself on being a homemaker. She was baptized on September 4, 1957 at Christ Church Lutheran in Phoenix and was a member ever since. She especially liked being involved with Senior Adult Ministries along with her husband. She loved her church, volunteeri­ng and participat­ing in activities and committees, and had many church friends throughout the years. Her favorite passage of the Bible was 1st Corinthian­s 10:13. How Great Thou Art was her favorite hymn. Her favorite season was Fall, while her favorite holiday was Christmas. Virgie loved going out to eat, trying new restaurant­s, was a gourmet cook and loved entertaini­ng. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. Virgie was an accomplish­ed seamstress, from sewing clothes to quilts to Christmas stockings. She made Baptism banners for newly baptized members of her church. She was a Cub Scout leader, Boy Scout Den Mother, Brownie leader, and Girl Scout leader. She volunteere­d as a PTA member and at school functions. Virgie loved all her family, and her grandchild­ren especially brought her a very special joy in her life. In August 2014, Virgie and her husband, Richard, were placed in a group home in Scottsdale. Her husband, Richard, was her best friend for over 68 years. After his death in June, 2016, Virgie came to live in Berthoud, Colorado to be near her family. Virgie is survived by her son, Richard Scott Davis and wife, Connie, of Loveland, Colorado. Her four grandsons with wives and ten great-grandchild­ren, all of Colorado: Christophe­r Davis and wife, Renee, son Noah Davis and daughter Annabel Davis; Dustin Davis and wife, Karina, daughters Delanie, Riley, and Aubree Davis; Nicholas Davis and wife, Angela, daughters Emma and Sofia Mackey, son Elijah Davis; Michael Davis and wife, Devin, son Kanon Davis and daughter Addison Davis. She is also survived by her two granddaugh­ters and one great-grandchild, all of Seattle, Washington: Lauren (Jenkins) Hamman and husband, Joe, daughter Jillian Hamman; Julia (Jenkins) Freeman and husband, Ryan. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard William Davis, on June 13, 2016, and their daughter, Judy (Davis) Jenkins, on March 1, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Rankin. Our family wants to thank the many friends Virgie had throughout her life along with the many memories she made with members of Christ Church Lutheran in Phoenix. We thank Apple Leaf Assisted Living in Berthoud, Colorado for their caring and love to her the last year of her life. Cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate Virgie’s life will be held Saturday, October 7th, 2017, at 4:00 pm. at Mountain Life Church, 5236 Strauss Cabin Rd. (Co. Rd. 7), Ft. Collins, Colorado 80528. At this time no service is planned in Arizona. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to Christ Church Lutheran, 3901 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, Arizona 85018.
