-

65 of Phoenix, passed away on August 29, 2017. Born in Monmouth, IL to Jon and Evelyn (Watson) Griffin, he grew up in Mt. Morris, IL. John graduated from both Highland Community College and Southern Illinois University with degrees in Radio & Television. One way or another John was always doing something interesting with mechanics or electronics - faster cars, off-road vehicles, computer graphics, or unique audio and computer adaptions. In 1988 John began his own business in Indianapolis designing computer graphic systems. After relocating to Arizona he went back to school, studying hydrology. He was hired by the AZ Dept. of Water Resources where he thrived, inspecting far-flung wells and repairing water-testing equipment across the state. Later John returned to electronics, servicing and repairing computers and related equipment for major manufacturers and banks. John always enjoyed the company of diverse friends, sharing his adventure stories, eating good food and laughter. He was an excellent sailor, an avid off-road adventurer, an electric car maker, and a unique computer inventor. John is survived by his sister, Nancy Griffin and her husband, John Cardwell, of Indianapolis, along with John’s companion in recent years, Lynn Baker of Phoenix, and many friends. A Celebration of John’s Life will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Mountain View Christian Church, 2927 E. Campbell Ave, Phoenix, AZ with a pot luck dinner to follow. John’s ashes will be interred near his parents in a private service in Gates, TN.
