Wall, William Monroe

-

William Monroe Wall, age 91, of Phoenix Arizona, died in the early hours of September 29, 2017. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 11th, 1926 to Mabel Wilson Wall and Virgil Dillon Wall. His charisma and leadership skills were evident early on as he was voted class president three of his four years at Millburn High School in New Jersey where the family had relocated. He was inspired to join the Army Air Corps during WW II, where he qualified for pilot, navigator and bombardier. After the war he graduated from the University of Missouri and met the love of his life, Lou Ann Trexler. They were married on May 1, 1949. His artistic talents, love of literature and creative genius culminated in a successful advertising career in New York City; including the opening of Rockwell, Quinn and Wall where he landed the Ethan Allen furniture account. He was proudest of a series of ads for Jax beer featuring the talents of Mike Nichols and Elaine May. In 1971, he and his business partner, Don Quinn were given the opportunity for a change. They packed up their families and embarked on a journey across the country and into a new endeavor, The Manor House, Inc., the first Ethan Allen store in Arizona. In the years to follow, while still creating advertising for Ethan Allen and expanding The Manor House, Inc. to all four corners of the Phoenix metropolis, he pursued his personal interests of remodeling his home, painting beautiful abstracts and avid reading. He always put his family first and instilled in them the values and standards that defined him. He will be remembered by his wife of 68 years, Lou Ann Wall, his children, Eric Wilson Wall, J. Scott Wall (Mary), Melanie Wall Brumble (Matt) and his grandchildren, Teagan Wall, Geoffrey Wall (Suri) and Annie Brumble. They will miss his quick wit, love of jazz, ingenious mind, strong handshake and his belief that we are all here to help one another. An “in memory” gathering of friends and family will take place on Sunday October 15 at 4:00 pm at the family home to celebrate his life.
