Raiders’ Lynch suspended 1 game for shoving official

-

NEW YORK - Oakland running back Marshawn Lynch was suspended for one game without pay by the NFL on Friday for shoving a game official during the Raiders’ victory over Kansas City on Thursday night.

Lynch was ejected from the game after he shoved line judge Julian Mapp.

The scuffle started when Oakland quarterback Derek Carr was hit late on a run by Kansas City’s Marcus Peters midway through the second quarter. Raiders offensive linemen Kelechi Osemele and Donald Penn immediately confronted Peters, and Lynch sprinted onto the field from the bench to join the fray. Mapp tried to break up the fight, but Lynch pushed him and grabbed his jersey. Lynch also got a personal foul.

Lynch will be eligible to return to Oakland’s active roster on Oct. 30, the day after the Raiders’ game against the Buffalo Bills.

Lynch finished the game with two carries for 9 yards.

Packers place Rodgers on injured reserve: The Green Bay Packers placed Aaron Rodgers on injured reserve after the quarterback had surgery on his broken collarbone.

Rodgers would be eligible to return from injured reserve after eight weeks and able to return to practice after six weeks. But coach Mike McCarthy has said that there is no timeline for Rodgers’ return, and that the two-time NFL MVP might miss the rest of the season.

“Everything went very well is my understanding talking with (team doctor Pat McKenzie), and he’s recovering,” McCarthy said Friday morning. The Packers did not practice Friday.

The procedure on Rodgers was done Thursday outside of Green Bay. He was hurt in the first quarter in a 23-10 loss last weekend to the Minnesota Vikings.

Bucs: Injured QB Jameis Winston will start against Bills: Tampa Bay’s Jameis Winston tested his injured throwing shoulder in practice and will start Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter made the announcement Friday after the third-year quarterback worked with the first-team offense for the first time since spraining his right shoulder during last week’s 38-33 loss at Arizona.

Winston was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, taking “mental reps” while backup Ryan Fitzpatrick prepared to face the Bills.

Falcons WR Sanu, DE Upshaw expected to play against Patriots: After being limited by injuries in practice earlier in the week, Falcons wide receiver Mohamed Sanu and defensive end Courtney Upshaw are expected to play against the Patriots.

Sanu missed last week’s loss to Miami with a hamstring injury. Upshaw has missed three games with ankle/knee injuries. Coach Dan Quinn says the two will have no limitations in Sunday night’s game.

Quinn said Friday the only player who will be held out due to an injury is backup linebacker Jordan Tripp (concussion).

Bills WR Matthews questionable vs. Bucs with thumb injury: Buffalo Bills wide receiver Jordan Matthews is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of a thumb injury.

Matthews participated fully in practice after being limited the previous two days. Matthews is making his way back from the injury. The receiver underwent thumb surgery after being injured in Buffalo’s Week 4 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Dolphins’ Pouncey back at practice and may play against Jets: Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey has returned to practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Pouncey practiced for the first time since entering the concussion protocol and missing last week’s win at Atlanta.

Receiver DeVante Parker missed practice again and is doubtful because of an ankle injury.

Steelers’ Mitchell fined $57,735 for 2 hits vs. Chiefs: Pittsburgh safety Mike Mitchell was fined $57,735 by the NFL for two hits he made in the Steelers’ win over Kansas City last Sunday.

Mitchell was docked $48,620 for a helmet-to-helmet shot to Chiefs running back Charcandrick West that resulted in a concussion. He also was fined $9,115 for hitting quarterback Alex Smith low near the end of the third quarter.
