(1923 - 2017)Helen Margaret Johnson of Phoenix, AZ passed away peacefully September 30, 2017 following a battle to overcome several illnesses she had endured the past few years. Helen was born an only child in 1923 to George Hiram Johnson and Dagmar Haubenssak, in Whitefish, Montana. Helen was 94. After attending school in Whitefish, she went on to attend the University of Nebraska and majored in Education and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. From there she went to the University of Minnesota to obtain her Master’s degree in Education. She took time out from school and went into business with a friend and ran "The Young Set" a children’s shop on 5th Avenue in Scottsdale for two years. Her real love was counseling, so she then went to ASU and obtained a degree in Counseling. She was a counselor at Scottsdale Community college for over 20 years. She was a published author writing "How do I Love Me" about selfesteem and "Living with Mountain Bluebirds". One of her proudest achievemen­ts was being a member of P.E.O. an Internatio­nal group of philanthro­pic women for over 75 years. She loved all of her sisters. She treasured the outdoors and loved fishing, hiking, golf, birding, writing poetry, reading and watching sports on TV. Helen is survived by her partner of many years, Mary Pennock and her adopted family Gregory Pennock, M.D., Pam , Karen and Kiki Huerta, grandchild­ren, Jenn, Kyle, Mia, Steven, Kendall, Joshua, Kassiday, Tyler, and her longtime friend Barbara Olsen. Also countless friends who will remember her for her kind, gentle, helping, giving ways.
