Cora McKiernan, 86, of Scottsdale Arizona, passed away on October 1, 2017. Born in Livingston Manor, NY, April 22, 1931 to Harry and Lela (Ebert) Shaver. She moved to Scottsdale, AZ in December, 1976. Cora worked for the Bell System for 35 years, in New York State & Arizona. She retired in December 1983. She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Parish for many years until moving to Mesa and later, Scottsdale, AZ. Since then, she has been affiliated with St. Charles Parish on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation in San Carlos, AZ where she volunteered for several projects over a period of 15 years at the St. Charles School. She had been an active volunteer with the Telephone Pioneers of America, Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, The Foundation for Blind Children, Back-to- School Clothing Drive Association, Grand Canyon State Games, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the National and Local Beep Baseball Program for the Blind. Included in the many recognitions for volunteerism that Cora received, were the Jim Quinn National Beep Baseball Association Award for Dedication to Sportsmanship (1986) Robert J. Timothy Medal of Distinction from the Telephone Pioneers (1992) the “12 Who Care” Hon Kachina Awards from KPNX-TV / Luke’s Men (1993) the Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Diana Award for Exceptional Service to Humanity (1994) and the Back-to-School Clothing Drive Assoc., Coat of Many Colors, for participation and volunteerism (2003). Cora’s memory will live in the grateful hearts of the countless persons who benefited from her tireless and selfless service to the disadvantaged, especially the children who had a special place in her heart. Survivors include her son, Patrick, grandchildren, Kevin and Sarah of So. Orange, NJ. Services will be held at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11:30am with a visitation at 11:00am – 11:30 am. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery, Resurrection Mausoleum, Phoenix, AZ.
