D-Backs first lady on beating breast can­cer

We can learn just as much about grit and per­se­ver­ance from an ev­ery­day woman as we can from the tough­est ballplayer.

Take for ex­am­ple Amy Hall, who was di­ag­nosed with an ag­gres­sive form of breast can­cer 18 months ago and has en­dured chemo, hair loss, ra­di­a­tion, surgery, blood trans­fu­sions and a creep­ing doubt that she didn’t dare speak out loud: She thought she was go­ing to die.

“That’s exactly how I felt,” Hall said.

This month, right around the same time the Di­a­mond­backs were pop­ping cham­pagne to cel­e­brate their Na­tional League wild-card game vic­tory, Hall, whose hus­band is the club’s pres­i­dent and CEO, fin­ished her treat­ment pro­to­col. She’s in re­mis­sion, and to book­end
