ADOT closing roads for winter

The Arizona Department of Transportation says it plans more seasonal highway closures.

ADOT says portions of State Routes 261 and 273 in eastern Arizona’s White Mountains will close Tuesday for the winter.

SR 261 will close between several miles south of State Route 260 and the SR 273 junction at Crescent Lake, while SR 273 will close between Sunrise Park and Big Lake.

The 4-mile portion of SR 273 between SR 260 and Sunrise Park remains open to provide access to the ski area.

Police: Man stops robbery suspect

Authorities in southern Arizona say a man suspected of robbing a spa was held at gunpoint by a patron of the business until police arrived.

Officers received a call Wednesday that someone had held up employees of the Nirvana Reflexology Spa in Marana after gaining access to through a back door. The suspect, identified as 28year-old Eric Allen Maynes, allegedly brandished a knife and took their money before fleeing.

Police say the patron chased Maynes and fired several shots in the direction of the suspect. No one was injured, but police say the unidentified patron prevented Maynes from leaving.

Maynes was booked into the Pima County jail on felony armed robbery, aggravated assault and kidnapping charges.
