‘Romance - or Not’ will regale six love stories
Dating can be hard. Especially in a digital age where the options seem limitless in your search for true love.
But the journey can also be exhilarating, passionate and introspective.
With Valentine’s Day approaching, the pressure is on. Whether you’re spending the day of love with your longtime partner or you’re still looking for a date on Tinder, we have some stories you might love to hear.
On Feb. 8, the Arizona Storytellers Project delves into dating apps, true love and everything in between.
Six people will share their stories on love and heartbreak at Arizona Storytellers: Romance – or Not at Changing Hands Bookstore in Phoenix. It’s a doubleheader event, with one show at 6:30 p.m. and another at 8:30 p.m.
Omotayo Talabi will tell the story of how a teenage heartbreak affected her for years.
Jason Hill shares his experience navigating the dating scene after losing his dream of becoming a priest.
Monica Castillo will look back on her family’s long history of love.
Manuel McCormack will share some of the hilarious yet heartbreaking dates following a breakup with his partner of six years.
Mare Schumacher, who will take the Storytellers stage for the fourth time, will talk about the “ideal guy” she met 20 years ago in grad school.
He had everything, she said: looks, smarts, her same sense of humor. She fell in love. As she got to know him, though, a red flag popped up. To her, it was a deal-breaker.
“Turns out he was a person who doesn’t plan things while I was, and am, a confirmed planner,” Schumacher said. “Pair up a planner and a non-planner and you find out what conflict really is.”
