The Arizona Republic

Nod if you’d rather have a cold one with your popcorn

- Clay Thompson

Today’s question:

In a recent article in The Arizona Republic (”Convicted felon charged...”), it was reported that “he replied, pausing for a moment while shaking his head up and down...”

I always thought the head up and down was called nodding, and the head back and forth was called shaking. Am I

right?

Try not to worry about it.

Next, it has come to my attention that someone (not me) somewhere (I don’t know where) goofed up in sending out gifts to a few of you who qualified by donating to the annual Anti-Goober campaign.

Be patient. All will be made right.

Now, down to business:

Given the need to stay well hydrated in this dry climate, does a nice cold 12ounce can of beer hydrate as well as a warm 12-ounce bottle of water?

There is no denying a cold one hits the spot on a hot day, but in the long run it is water that you need.

Alcohol actually dehydrates you. It interferes with the way your body regulates your water content and makes you pee more than you would if you stuck to plain old water.

Can you make popcorn from regular corn? Please tell me how I can get real popcorn.

Only certain types of corn bear kernels that will pop.

I am not sure what you mean by “real” popcorn. You can find popcorn on the cob online if you mean to shell your own, but that seems like more trouble than it’s worth.

Or you could grow your own.

Or do you need to know how to make popcorn on the stove? That isn’t all that hard, but I suspect a lot of you have your own traditions for doing this, and I am not about to get involved in any discussions about which way is best.
