Bee attack kills puppies

Four pit bull puppies die and one is missing after a bee attack in the backyard of a Glendale home.

Four 8-week-old pit bull puppies have died and one is missing after a bee attack at a Glendale home Wednesday afternoon.

Only one pup, Lucky, survived along with his mother, Pexi.

Esther Julian told The Arizona Republic that she noticed one of her dogs crying in the backyard while she was talking on the phone.

After seeing that bees were attacking her dogs, she said she couldn’t do anything without the bees coming inside the home.

She and her two children ran and found cover at a cemetery near the home, Julian said, where she called the fire department.

Julian and her 1-year-old daughter were stung along the way.

The fire crews recovered five of the puppies and the mother, but one pup, Bullet, is still missing, Julian said.

Julian rushed her dogs to the vet, where she said two were pronounced dead.

She brought home three puppies and the mother, but one of the puppies died before 5 p.m. Another died around 8 p.m.

“It was really sad and emotional,” Julian said. “Because we thought they were going to make it, and we had hope for the puppies to make it.”

She said she named the only surviving pup Lucky for obvious reasons.
