Presidents of Arizona’s three state universities released their proposals for tuition and fee rates for the 2018-19 school year. The Arizona Board of Regents will vote on the proposals April 5.

Arizona State University is proposing a $30 per year fee increase for its student health fee, but no increases in tuition for in-state undergraduate studentsor other mandatory class or academic fees. There is a proposed tuition hike for out-of-state and international undergraduates, graduate students and online students.

Under ASU’s proposal, in-state undergraduates will pay $10,822 a year, compared with $10,792 this year. $15 increase in student health fee. No tuition increase for in-state undergraduate students.

3.5 percent increase for out-ofstate undergraduates, international students and out-of-state graduate students.

1.5 percent for in-state graduate students.

Six years ago, ASU President Michael Crow committed to not raising instate tuition more than 3 percent per year for Arizona students for 10 years.

University of Arizona guaranteed-tuition plans for some current students. But new students will pay a higher rate in exchange for their rates being locked in for four years.

The in-state rate for new undergrads at the UA will be $12,447 a year, or about 1.8 percent more than the $12,228 that current students pay.

1.8 percent increase for new instate undergraduates. No new fees.

1.93 percent increase for new-outof-state undergraduates. No new fees.

1.81 percent increase (including fees and tuition) for in-state graduate students.

Northern Arizona University also offers guaranteed-tuition plans for some

current students.

At NAU, the new price for incoming in-state undergrads will be $11,564, with the tuition rate guaranteed for four years. That’s about a 4.6 percent more than the $11,059 that current students pay.

NAU’s proposal also includes instituting a $150 annual fee for athletics, as well as increases for graduate students.

NAU President Rita Cheng said 98 percent of current undergrads on the Flagstaff campus won’t see a tuition increase because they are on the “Pledge Program” with their tuition rate good for four years.

The tuition-and-fee rate doesn’t reflect any scholarships or grants a student may be eligible to receive.

University presidents will present their proposals to the Arizona Board of Regents March 29. The Regents will vote on the tuition and fee proposals at their April 5 meeting in Tucson.
