PHOENIX – Zoe Anne Spinner, the petite person with the warm smile and helping hand at the Information Desk of the Arizona House of Representatives, died May 9. She was 87.

She worked at the Information Desk from 2000 until she retired in 2012. She described the way she worked at the desk by saying to a reporter, “I want to make people welcome and I want to help them, and most of all, I want them to be comfortable.” On working at the House, she said, “This is history.” Zoe was born July 7, 1930 in Independence, MO. She began working at the House in 1958, left in 1962 to work for Sen. Carl Hayden in his Phoenix office and went to work for Western Airlines in 1967 as the executive secretary for the vice president of sales.

While working for Western Airlines, she met Earl “Spin” Spinner, who was the manager of ramp services. They were married in 1969. They both had been married previously. Spin survives her, as do three children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Zoe and Spin lived in Southern California until 1979 when they moved to Arizona.

Zoe went to work for the Plaza Club as a party coordinator. In 1990, she went to the Arizona House of Representatives “to meet with the girls” and was rehired. She worked as an administrative assistant to Rep. Bob McClendon until 2000 when he left the Legislature, and she took his job at the Information Desk.

Due to a limited capacity, two memorial services have been scheduled – one at 10 a.m. and another at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 22018 at The Best Funeral Services, 9380 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria.
