A barricade situation that resulted in a house fire in Phoenix ended Monday morning when police realized no one else was inside.

The nearly 18-hour ordeal resulted in the arrest of two armed robbery suspects.

Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said Monday that the second man was taken into custody with the help of a police dog.

She said the standoff at the home had continued after he lied to officers and said there was a third man inside. It ended two hours later when officers discovered the lie.

The first suspect arrested during the standoff that began around midday Sunday was identified as 37-year-old Kenny Keyes.

The second suspect is a 26-year-old man whose identity is being withheld until he is formally booked.

Police spent hours on Sunday trying to negotiate with the two men before they shot at law enforcement from inside the home near 19th Avenue and Cactus Road. No officers were hurt. They exchanged gunfire with police multiple times before one of the robbery suspects exited the home and surrendered to police Sunday evening, according to Fortune.

At about 8:30 p.m., the other suspect again fired at officers. Smoke and flames erupted from the home, drawing fire crews to the scene. Fortune said it was unclear how the fire began and whether the second suspect had been hurt.

The second man, who had rifle magazines and ammunition in his possession, exited with the assistance of a police K-9 and told police officials that there was another suspect in the home with additional weapons.
