All the hysteria over migrant kids: Can we give it a rest?

- Ken Duvall, Goodyear Sue Coady, Goodyear Deborah Hendrix, Glendale

The hand-wringers are working overtime. As a police officer for 20 years I have seen many kids removed from their parents. CPS is a logical source for this unfortunate situation when Mom or Dad decide to shoplift or do some other crime with their kids in tow.

Alas, they get caught and off to they go. Oh no!

The kids are immediately taken from the parents and placed into a foster home. They go for how long? I don’t know.

What about the drama each day in divorce courts? Kids are taken on a daily basis. Where is the outrage?

I submit the kids taken at our borders are under no different conditions than the above situations. Actually, in these cases these kids are fed better, cared for better and clothed better.

The parents knew the dangers when they decided to unlawfully enter our country.

Stop the whining.

Treatment of migrant children shows America has lost its way

jail

I can only say I am totally and completely disgusted with what is happening with the children at the border.

This is not even a political issue, it is a humanitarian one.

What has happened to my country? What upsets me most are polls that show Republicans (not me anymore) support these atrocities.

Where is your humanity, your morals, your Christianity?

What is going on in your heads? Most of you would be up in arms if this were being done to animals that were separated from their litters.

I don’t have all the answers, but I do know right from wrong. This problem is very simplistic; one does not take away children from their parents without a court hearing.

And even family court judges usually rule in favor of the family. Holding these children hostage to achieve a campaign promise of a wall is repulsive.

Especially when that promise was for Mexico to pay for it. In my book, now a blatant broken promise.

We have lost our way. We have become our own worse enemy. Compassion, please look it up. This is just so very, very wrong.

Where is the outrage over detained children of U.S. citizens?

It is not always in the best interest of children to separate them from their parents, but it happens everyday to many children of legal residents.

If you are arrested and have minors living with you, they may become wards of the state until family can be located or you are released from jail.

Unfortunately, parents try to cross our border illegally with children. Children may come in by themselves or with an adult that is not related to them. Those children are separated due to laws being broken, just as done with citizens who break laws.

Where is the outrage for detaining our children who are citizens of our country? They did not know that their parents were breaking laws.

Our borders need to be secured, and migrant parents need to think about the possible consequences to their little ones if they cross the border illegally.
