Penelope

Penelope is a unique and different cat in almost every way possible. The beautiful 4-year-old medium hair was brought to the Arizona Humane Society in rough shape when she was found as an injured stray in Tempe.

Penelope had a painfully enlarged and swollen ear, with matted hair all over her body — dehydrated and lethargic. Luckily for her, a Good Samaritan found her just in time and rushed her to AHS, where she was treated in its Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital. As it would turn out, her ear condition was caused by a hematoma, or a solid swelling of clotted blood, that needed to be drained and treated through surgery.

After a successful surgery, Penelope was feeling much better but had a few weeks of recovery ahead of her, which was spent in a loving foster hero’s home. There, this sweet girl was given the medication and care she needed while always having a loving and watchful eye on her while she healed.

Now that this sleek beauty is healed and feeling much better, she wants the whole world to see just how loving she is.

Described as “sweet as honey,” Penelope prefers to be petted, scratched and snuggled over playing with toys. She also loves people and enjoys getting to know anyone who gives her a few chin scratches. Being brushed and lying on her person’s lap are two of her favorite pastimes — but Penelope insists that both can be done at the same time.

Anyone who meets Penelope agrees she has very cool ears.

However, because of their unique shape, she does have chronic ear infections and will need a home that is willing to give her the care she may need for them.

How to adopt: Penelope will be available for adoption today at noon at the Arizona Humane Society’s Campus for Compassion, 1521 W. Dobbins Road in Phoenix. Penelope’s adoption fee includes her spay surgery, current vaccinations, a microchip and a free followup wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital. For more information, call 602-997-7585 and ask for animal number 582416.
