Sid Roswick

SUN CITY – Sidney Irvin Roswick was born in Tacoma, WA, December 18, 1926, to Conrad and Anna (Norvaag) Roswick, and passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018, at the age of 91.

His family moved to Seattle (Ballard) in 1928, where Sid grew up. Sid and his siblings, Arnie and Sylvia Ann (Goldberger), attended Ballard High School. He left high school to join the American Merchant Marines in Oceangoing Service during the period of armed conflict, December 7, 1941, to August 15, 1945. He loved working on ships and traveling the world, had fond memories of his travels and loved sharing them.

Sid’s love of the water and boating started when he was a boy. He and his buddies would dive for coins and bus tokens the passengers would throw into the water from the ferry that used to dock in Ballard.

Sid married Margaret (Marty) Simundson May 13, 1950. They had three children, Chrystal Lanning (Mike) Edmonds, Cory Roswick, Seabeck, and Karleen (Knight) Indo, CA., and five grandchildren: Ryan Ferry, Jack and Robert Lanning, Natalie and Mitchell Roswick.

He delivered home heating oil before going to work at the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, and retired as Chief Investigator in 1982. He enjoyed fishing in the Puget Sound, was an avid golfer (loved telling his hole-in-one experience at Willow Creek Golf Course), a member of the Ballard Elks and loved playing cards with his buddies at the Elks Club on Tuesdays. Sid had a wide variety of hobbies.

After 30 years of being single, Sid married Grace Carpenter in March 17, 2001. They enjoyed traveling around the U.S., and took a cruise from Chile to Antarctica. They wintered in Sun City, AZ, and spent summers in Ballard. Grace passed away from cancer in February, 2006. Sid spent the last 4 years of his life in Ballard and Edmonds, WA. He was preceded in death by his brother Arnie and son-in-law, Tommy Knight.

There will be a celebration of Sid’s life July 11, 2–4 pm, at the Edmonds Yacht Club, 326 Admiral Way, Edmonds, WA 98020.
