How to stay safe around fireworks on July 4

- Rent Smart The Arizona Multihousing Association is the statewide trade association for the apartment industry, representing more than 2,000 members in legislative, legal and regulatory matters.

each city in Arizona has its own designated dates and times residents are allowed to use fireworks. Before you buy any type of firework, familiarize yourself with these dates. In addition, you should check with your apartment community to see what rules they enforce when it comes to using fireworks.

Avoid setting off fireworks around any animals. Not only is it dangerous to light fireworks around them, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reports many pets find fireworks scary. You can help calm your animals from the loud fireworks by closing open windows or doors and masking the sound with music or the TV.

Do not light any fireworks near trees, structures, grass or enclosed areas. Pick an open, paved space away from crowds of people and animals. Bring a fire extinguisher or bucket of water. Extinguish any used fireworks and dispose them in a metal trashcan.

If you have any fireworks you didn’t use this season, make sure you store them correctly for next year. Carefully place the unused fireworks in a safe container. Place the container in a cool, dry location. Make sure the fireworks are put far away from any potential fire sources, and out of reach of small children.

Fireworks in July are a fun and festive way to celebrate our country. It is important that they are used safely and responsibly this season.
