Jonathan David “Jon” Cowen

-

PHOENIX – Jonathan David “Jon” Cowen was called home by God suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, July 2. Everyone who knew him was shocked and saddened because Jon was always so full of life. He was an adoring father, loving son and loyal friend. His smile lit up a room and his sense of humor was quotable. Jon attended the University of Arizona and was in the commercial real estate industry for 28 years, specializing in retail leasing and development. He most recently was with DeRito Partners. Jon was a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a frequent industry speaker. Jon loved what he did professionally – but what he loved most was being a father. He adored his three children, Charlie 18, Jack 16 and Lucy 12. Jon’s life was his children, work, and any kind of sports. He even managed a hole-in-one in his lifetime. Probably one of the most compassionate men around, Jon Cowen had lifelong friends whom he treasured and current friends he valued. He had been a member of The Men’s Active 20-30 Club of Tucson and served on the Fresh Start Men’s Board in Phoenix. Jon was born in Phoenix, October 7, 1969 and left too soon, at age 48. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 17 at 10:30 AM at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Paradise Valley with reception immediately following at Arizona Country Club. In lieu of flowers, Jon would have wanted contributions for his children’s higher education. The Cowen Educational Trust has been established at Chase Bank, any location. Jon was preceded in death by his father, Bob Cowen, and is survived by his three children, his step-brother Scott Fisher, his stepsister Jamie Bessler and his mother, Sandy Cowen. Those who knew Jon are devastated. He will truly be missed.
