This Vietnam veteran fears where his country is headed.

- Contact him:

I am a scared 78-year-old Vietnam veteran with a 45-year marriage, two daughters, two graduate degrees and a 30-year career managing people.

I am scared of where I see my country headed.

Except for being overseas I have voted in every election for the last 60 years. In all that time I have never seen such divisive partisanship as I have seen in the last two years.

I am scared because I believe it is killing the America that I have grown up in and defended. I am scared when I see our leader blowing asunder a mutual defense alliance that has lasted since the end of WWII.

Surprisingly compromise is not a dirty word.

To make it more plain, if it were not for compromise you would not have a car to drive, a TV to watch, a cell phone or any other designed product.

To our members of Congress, I would treat you like I did design engineers: If you cannot compromise on a workable solution to a problem, I would fire you and hire folks who could.

I think your pay should depend on results ... what a novel idea. With elections approaching, think seriously about where our country is and where you want it to be. Bill Hosking, Scottsdale

The left is at it again with all of their outrageous scare tactics

The sky is falling! Back alley abortions, really?

Are they going to go door to door and drag illegals into a van?

I've been hearing these phrases from the left for 40 years. Former Vice-President Joe Biden said: “They're goin’ to put you all back in chains.”

The scare tactics don't work anymore because it never comes true. Your side lost get over it!

Ever wonder why the right is not out protesting in front of someone's house?

Because we have to go to work in the morning. Randy Hogenmiller, Phoenix

Trump’s performance at NATO summit has stained his country

Congratulations, Mr. President, once again you failed to disappoint in the worst way.

I knew your performance at the NATO summit would be bad but I hoped somehow you would have found some way to not damage the alliance and stain this country with streaks left by your remarks in Belgium.

I served in Germany, then the Federal Republic of Germany, and my commission and legs and arms and heart and blood were there to make sure the very real threat of the Soviet Union was checked.

The Soviet Union is gone, but Mr. Putin remains a threat in need of constant checking. I am truly sorry that you do not understand that.

I am not sure that your remarks, your disdain for the alliance or your lack of understanding of its importance qualifies as a high crime or misdemeanor but it ought to rate inclusion into one of those categories.

Mr. President, you are not making America "great again." You are breaking America bit by bit.

Shame on you, again. Mark Ashley, Scottsdale

With all the parallels in DUI case, seems likes Cards have 1 choice

Did I miss something or are there different standards applied in this Arizona Cardinals drunken driving case?

Wasn't receiver Michael Floyd dismissed from the Cardinals by team owner Michael Bidwill immediately and unconditionally because of the code of conduct scenario?

If I remember correctly, Floyd actually pulled off the road and was asleep as opposed to Mr. Keim who was actually driving and stopped at a DUI check point.

I'm sorry, but all individuals should face the same consequences when they endanger the public roadways. Dave Dickey, Scottsdale

Why deny a better life to people who work hard and love their kids?

On the roulette wheel that is life you have the misfortune of being born in a country without a strong rule of law or functioning economy. You try to make a living and are thwarted by corruption.

You’ve listened to one politician after another promising to make things better, and yet nothing changes. Now you have children and their safety is threatened if you don’t pay for protection.

You will do everything possible to make a better life for you and your family.

And we in the “shining city on the hill,” with high per-capita income, abundant natural resources and nearly full employment, why don’t we welcome these people with open arms? People who want to work hard, educate their children, pay taxes and follow the rules. This is a country built by immigrants, why close the doors now?

For those fortunate enough to be born here, why are these petitioners less worthy than your ancestors who emigrated? Are their troubles any less compelling than the troubles that caused your ancestors to flee? Where would you be if your ancestors had been stopped or sent back? You would have been born elsewhere, into good fortune or bad, because that is the roulette wheel of life. Mary Wheeler, Mesa
