Here’s a little something Speed Racer didn’t consider

Dear Rep. Paul Mosley,

You may be aware of the laws of Arizona. Are you aware that there are laws of tire physics? If you are driving 130 mph or more, I would hope your car tires are speed rated.

Speeds in excess of posted highway speeds will cause your tires to come apart due to centrifugal force. A speed rating of H is required for speeds 130 mph plus up to149 mph.

This is listed in raised letters on the sidewalls of your tires.

Wanted to tell Karina Bland she’s doing good job filling big shoes

I wanted to take a second and let Karina Bland know that her column on “Someone has to do it” was fabulous today. I was curious how she was going to do filling in for such big shoes, but after today’s column I’m confident she is going to be just fine. That only took a second.

The state of the nation is not good, and Sen. Flake must act

Sen. Flake must act in defense of democracy on two fronts:

I implore him to hold off confirming any U.S. Supreme Court nominee until the president, the one who nominates, is no longer under federal investigation. It would be unconscionable to confirm someone under present circumstances.

Additionally, I know that Flake — a leader in a border state and a decent human being — knows that what is happening at the border is a disgrace to this nation and must me stopped and rectified.

There is no excuse for not being able to track where immigrant children have been sent, or to make them appear in court alone, or to make it so difficult to reunify them with their families.

This is state-sponsored child abuse and will be a black mark on American history. Flake has the power to speak up and pressure those in power to do what is right to improve this horrendous situation.

Trump disgraces our nation in Europe and his voters can’t see it

Watching President Donald Trump conduct himself at the critical NATO summit gives total new meaning to the term “Ugly American.”

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Donald Trump is a disgrace to the presidency and his supporters are blind to the incredible damage he is doing to the United States.

If not now, just when are we going to push Europe to defend itself?

I don’t understand the criticism of the president’s approach to NATO and trade. If you believe in NATO, how does pushing the European NATO countries to increase their defense spending weaken NATO?

As Robert Robb pointed out, the EU has three times the population of Russia and an economy at least four times as large and yet the United States must provide most of Europe’s security against Russia.

Perhaps the president is right that Europe needs to step up and provide more of its own defense.
