Officials: A.J. man kills intruder

An Apache Junction resident shot and killed an armed intruder Saturday, officials said.

The shooting happened at a home near Tomahawk Road and U.S. 60 at about 11 a.m.

Navideh Forghani, a spokeswoman for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, said the two armed intruders attempted to break into the home.

The homeowner struggled with one of the male attackers before shooting him, Forghani said. The intruder was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The homeowner escaped the struggle with non-lifethreatening injuries.

Forghani said the second intruder may have fled the area in a dark-colored car.
