PHOENIX – Katherine Lambrynoi Francis, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and friend, fell asleep with the Lord on July 25, 2018. Kathy was born in Rock Island, IL on April 15, 1928; Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday; the youngest child of Andrew and Meta Gianulis; their shy and sweet, “Beba.” Kathy grew up working in her father’s restaurant, then went to business school and became a legal secretary and court reporter. This led to a lifelong interest in the law. She was also politically savvy: her brother John was Democratic Party Chairman in Illinois for many years. She valued education and was a lifelong learner and avid reader. Her primary focus was her faith and family and she led by example: reading the Bible daily, attending church services regularly, and praying fervently for her loved ones and anyone whose need came to her attention. She was hardworking and independent through her 80’s: a meticulous housekeeper, wonderful cook, and great listener. She enjoyed all things romantic. Some of her frequent phrases were: “Wonderful. Take your shoes off at the door. Have a second plate of food, we have plenty. Always be grateful and say thank you. Love and forgive. Be generous: there are no pockets on the shroud.” Those left to cherish Kathy’s memory are her children Dee (Ray) Unks, Chris (Celeste) Francis, and Andrew Francis. Grandchildren (Ben (Kristine) Clark, Adam (Kate) Clark, Peter Clark, Kalli and Kelsea Francis. Great grandchildren (Julia and Javier Clark and Zander Shield. Nephew Andrew(Mimi) Gianulis and Nick (Valerie) Kangles. We will remember your humility, generosity, kindness, and positive attitude. Your smile and graciousness are your legacy along with your unwavering faith. We love you and will miss you. Keep praying for everyone as you are now in peace with our Lord. A Trisagion (Prayer Service) will begin at 7pm on Thursday, August 2nd with visitation until 8pm at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 8202 E. Cactus Rd., Scottsdale and the funeral at 10am on Friday, August 3rd at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church or Hospice of the Valley.
