GLENDALE – The family of Leland K. Bervin is saddened to share the news of his passing July 21, 2018. He was born September 13, 1926, the fourth child and only son of Ole and Martina Bervin. Life was austere during the Depression years. His mother and oldest sister died before he was nine, and soon after, his father lost his share of the family homestead and the rest of the family moved in with an aunt. Like many at the time, he enlisted as soon as he graduated high school, over his father’s protest. He served in the South Pacific with the Navy 1944-1946. After a year of college and working at a job that required a lot of travel, he found his career at the Bureau of Reclamation. Soon after, to the delight of his sisters, he met and married Judith Mattison. They shared 65 years, three children, Stephanie, David and Darrell, six grandchildren with their spouses/significant others, three great granddaughters and a circle of wonderful longtime friends. Sadly, David passed away suddenly in April 2018. Leland dedicated his time to supporting his family and didn’t ask much for himself. His family remains grateful for his love and life lessons. Services will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 with visitation at 8:30 AM and funeral service at 9 AM. A committal ceremony with military honors will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 11 AM.
