H.S. football 2-a-days: Region previews

- Richard Obert The Republic

This is a look at the region previews for the 2018 Arizona high school football season.

Check back each day for updates.

The season kicks off Aug. 17 with Zero Week.

2A Verde

The teams: Camp Verde, Glendale Prep, Parker, Tonopah Valley.

The favorite: Parker. Driven after falling to Tempe Prep in season finale that kept the Broncs out of the playoffs.

Watch out: Tonopah Valley. That overtime loss to Paradise Honors to end the season at 5-4 still stings.

The star: Tonopah Valley RB Angelo Anderson. The senior ran for 1,539 yards and 16 TDs last season.

Key date: Aug. 24 – Parker plays at Wickenburg in the 53rd battle for the axe.

3A Central

The teams: American Leadership-Ironwood, American Leadership-Queen Creek, Queen Creek Benjamin Franklin, Coolidge, Florence, San Tan Foothills.

The favorite: Florence. With ALA-QC ineligible for the playoffs, the Gophers begin season in driver's seat.

Watch out: Benjamin Franklin. Tough, hard-nosed team that is coming off great season.

The star: Florence DE/TE Regen Terry. The 6-4, 235pound junior is practically unblockable at this level.

Key date: Aug. 31 – Florence should get a good gauge at home against East beast Snowflake.
