Suspect in DPS trooper shooting booked into jail

The man accused of fatally shooting an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper and injuring another was taken to jail after being released from a Phoenix hospital late Wednesday morning.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Raul Garcia said troopers and detectives used handcuffs issued to Trooper Tyler Edenhofer to shackle Isaac Damon King, 20, before he was taken to jail.

King is accused of fatally shooting Edenhofer, who was 24, and injuring another trooper on July 25.

“Using Tyler’s handcuffs signifies the completion of the call for service that ultimately took his life,” Garcia said. “It also means we have taken over Trooper Edenhofer’s watch and completed the apprehension of his assailant.”

King had been receiving medical treatment at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center since his arrest following the fatal shooting of Edenhofer.

The Arizona Republic learned that King was placed in a “medically induced coma” after refusing treatment at a Valley hospital on Wednesday night.

DPS Trooper Kameron Lee on Friday afternoon said King had since been taken out of the coma and was alert.

King was being booked into Maricopa County’s Fourth Avenue Jail as of noon.

He is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of aggravated assault, three counts of endangerment and one count of resisting arrest, according to the department.
