Fatal crash causes delays on the Interstate 7 near Black Canyon City

A fatal crash on Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City caused massive traffic delays Saturday, officials said.

One person died in a four-vehicle collision near Milepost 248 just north of Black Canyon City Saturday morning, according to a Department of Public Safety spokespers­on. Officials did not provide any additional details about the collision.

The crash closed northbound lanes Saturday morning. Traffic was backed up more than 17 miles as drivers waited for the interstate to reopen.

Both lanes reopened at about 11 a.m., but traffic continued to back up with long delays Saturday afternoon.

1 dead after ‘domestic-violence’ shooting at a Fountain Hills hotel, authoritie­s say

One person is dead after a shooting at a Fountain Hills hotel across from the city’s famous fountain Saturday.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as a “domestic-violence shooting.”

It occurred at the Centerston­e Plaza Hotel near Lago and Saguaro boulevards at about midnight Saturday. The shooting is still under investigat­ion, but an MCSO spokesman said there is no threat to the public at this time.

MCSO has not publicly identified the victim or confirmed whether the shooter is in custody.

Phoenix police: Woman dies after car crashes into stopped Valley Metro bus

A woman is dead after her car struck a stopped Valley Metro bus early Saturday.

The crash happened at 40th Street and Southern Avenue at 12:45 a.m.

Phoenix police said the woman was driving a small sedan west on 40th Street when she hit the bus, which was stopped at the intersecti­on.

The woman, who police said was approximat­ely 30 to 40 years old, was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The bus driver and passengers weren’t injured in the collision.

Police looking for driver who struck, injured pedestrian on I-10 off-ramp

Police are searching for a driver whose vehicle hit a pedestrian on the Interstate 10 eastbound off-ramp near Seventh Street Saturday.

Phoenix police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said the male pedestrian had serious injuries when officers responded at about 5:15 a.m. The man was transporte­d to a nearby hospital.

The eastbound I-10 off-ramp was closed Saturday morning as police investigat­ed.

The driver left the area after the crash. Police did not have a descriptio­n of the vehicle.
