CAMPING OUT

-

Camp confidential: The team conducted its third practice outdoors adjacent to University of Phoenix Stadium on Tuesday, and coach Steve Wilks said he’s seeing the benefits from working out under the sun. It was a nice continuation, he said, from Monday’s practice indoors, which was the most physical and hard-hitting session yet of camp. “I was very pleased how we came back today outside in the heat and had another good practice,” he said. “It started off a little slow with a few mental (mistakes), but the guys locked in and got focused and had a pretty good practice in the end.” As for what he’s trying to build through his outdoor practices, Wilks said, “What you’re trying to create is a mindset of guys trying to push themselves through it and trying to create some reserve.” … Wilks said he’s impressed with rookie center Mason Cole, who is stepping in as the new starter for A.Q. Shipley, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve after suffering a torn right ACL. “He has a lot of confidence, and he should, and I’m not going to waver with him being in there,” Wilks said. … Former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner will join anchor Colleen Wolfe and reporter Ian Rapoport at the stadium on Wednesday for the NFL Network’s “Inside Training Camp Live” coverage of Cardinals camp.

Injury report: Not practicing on Tuesday were DTs Robert Nkemdiche and Olsen Pierre, who were held out for precautionary reasons by Wilks in order to get some extra rest and recovery time. WR Chad Williams was not a full participant because of some minor tendinitis in his knee. CB Jonathan Moxey and LB Airius Moore are nursing sore hamstrings. LB Deone Bucannon (knee) is day-to-day. TE Jermaine Gresham (Achilles') and DE Markus Golden (knee) remain on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

Quote: “I appreciate the outpouring of support from everybody and just know that this is a setback that will provide an opportunity for a comeback. Appreciate all the prayers and well wishes. It will be my driving force to motivate me to come back stronger in 2019. I will miss competing with my teammates but will do everything I can to help out in other ways! Thanks again. The texts, calls, tweets and messages have gotten me through these last couple days.” – Center A.Q. Shipley’s statement from his Twitter account after learning he will be lost for the season due to a torn right ACL.

Up next: The team will practice Wednesday from 1:30-4 p.m. at University of Phoenix Stadium. Gates open 30 minutes prior to the start of practice. Practice times are subject to change. Visit the team’s website for updates.
