Curry shoots 1-over 71 in Web.com Tour event

HAYWARD, Calif. – Stephen Curry rallied with three birdies to shoot a 1over 71 on Thursday in the first round of the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic.

Making his second appearance in the $600,000 event at TPC Stonebrae, the Golden State Warriors star rebounded from a bogey on the par-3 second hole with a long birdie putt on the par-5 third. He added birdies on the par-4 seventh and eighth – hitting the flagstick on No. 8 – and closed with a par on the par-X ninth.

Playing as an amateur, Curry was eight shots behind leaders Adam Long and Seth Reeves with the afternoon wave still on the course. Last year, Curry shot 74-74 to tie for 148th and miss the cut by 11 shots.

Stills, 2 other Dolphins protest during national anthem

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Kenny Stills and two other Miami Dolphins protested during the national anthem before Thursday’s exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Receivers Stills and Albert Wilson kneeled behind teammates lined up standing along the sideline. Defensive end Robert Quinn stood and raised his right fist, as he did during the anthem last season with the Los Angeles Rams.

There were no apparent demonstrat­ions by the Buccaneers.

Vikings’ Easton likely out for season with neck injury

EAGAN, Minn. – The Minnesota Vikings say left guard Nick Easton’s neck injury has landed him on the injured reserve list, likely ending his season.

Coach Mike Zimmer says Easton has a bulging disc in his neck. He hasn’t practiced since Aug. 3.

Dodgers’ Stripling reinstated from disabled list

DENVER – The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated right-hander Ross Stripling from the 10-day disabled list and he will start Thursday night against the Colorado Rockies.

Stripling missed the last nine games with an inflamed right toe. The All-Star will be making his 17th start of the season. He has an 8-3 record with a 2.68 ERA.

Rockies reinstate left-handed reliever Rusin

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies reinstated lefty Chris Rusin from the 10day disabled list after the reliever missed time with plantar fasciitis.

Rusin went on the DL on July 24. He also missed time earlier this season with a strained intercosta­l muscle.

Red Sox move struggling LHP Pomeranz to bullpen

TORONTO – The Boston Red Sox moved struggling left-hander Drew Pomeranz to the bullpen and will keep right-hander Brian Johnson as a starter after ace lefty Chris Sale returns from the disabled list.

Pomeranz, 1-5 with a 6.31 ERA, is winless in eight starts since a May 2 victory over Kansas City. Pomeranz matched a season-worst with five walks in Tuesday’s start at Toronto, leaving after 42⁄ innings.

K-State signs Snyder to new 5-year contract

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State has signed Bill Snyder to a new, more lucrative five-year contract that could keep the 78-year-old coach with the Wildcats through the 2022 season.

Snyder already had a contract that essentiall­y rolled over each year. But the new deal increases his salary to $3.45 million this season with increases of $300,000 each of the next two.
