The Arizona Republic

I hope I’m not the only one who is alarmed

- Respectfully submitted, Paul M. Lamb, Glendale

Poll: 43 percent of Republicans say Trump should be able to shut down media outlets. There are two possibilities with Trump's negative news coverage.

Am I the only one troubled by this. Ether all the major news outlets are lying with "fake news" or Fox News is lying, which is more likely. Ron Apodaca, Phoenix

Listen up, people. This is how dictatorships get started

The “enemy of the people” talk is working. A plurality of self-identified Republicans say they want Trump to have the power to take “bad” media outlets out.

Isn't this how dictators get started? Wake up people. With ideas like this the GOP is not fit to govern. Mike Moore, Phoenix

Does “The Republic” have an opinion on the NYT’s new racist?

I would like to hear The Arizona Republic’s editorial board’s opinion on the

New York Times’ new hire of Sarah Jeong to their editorial board.

As you know, her past Twitter tweets and public comments have spewed hatred toward white people and the police.

Does The Republic’s editorial board have any issues with Ms. Jeong? Would the Arizona Republic hire someone with this type of background? If her hatred were against other groups of people, would that change the narrative?

I don’t seem to recall any article or editorial on this issue in The Republic. I may have missed it. If I did, can you direct me to it please.

I would love to hear your viewpoint on this issue.

This country, this America, has become a nation I don’t recognize

When the zero-tolerance immigration policy was instituted, 2,400 children were ripped from their parents. And where were they taken?

They were turned over to U.S. Health and Human Services Department; a department that was totally blindsided by this policy and not prepared to handle this amount of children.

So where were these children placed? They were sent to for-profit shelters like Southwest Key, where there is now evidence of sexual abuse; MVM, who held children in an abandoned office complex; or in an already overburdened foster-care system.

When parents are released and lucky enough to locate their children, they are responsible to pay the transportation cost.

Typical of this, was the mother who was released from a Phoenix facility, whose three children were placed in foster care in New York.

Any pediatrician will tell you separating kids from their families causes irreparable harm, and when you add abuse to that they may never recover.

What is wrong with a country that allows this? A country that lost its moral compass and is being led by a Republican Party that has lost its soul! Carolyn O’Connor, Mesa
