Robert D. Dole, age 94, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. He was born on December 17, 1923; the son of the late Orville and Grace (Earnest) Dole. Bob married Frances Daley on September 8, 1951.

He had served in the United States Army, 665 Ordinance Ammunition Company, during WWII in the European Theatre and Battle of the Bulge and was awarded four bronze stars for his service. Bob went on to work for Coca-Cola and later the United States Postal Service, retiring from there in 1978. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the National Associatio­n of Letter Carriers Union. He was a talented artist and loved painting. He also enjoyed fishing, handy work, and remodeling his homes. Bob and Fran traveled together to all 50 states.

He is survived by his wife, Fran Dole of Pearl City; sons, Dennis (Nellie) Dole of Menan, ID, Doug Dole of Scottsdale, AZ, Don (Beth) Dole of Scottsdale, AZ, and Dean (Jill) Dole of Gilbert, AZ; grandchild­ren, Tiffany (Tracey) Mitchell, Todd (Emily) Dole, Darren (Amber Holden) Dole, Drake Dole, Danielle Dole, and Davis Dole; nine great grandchild­ren; and sister, Joan (Dave) Becke of Lake Summerset, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; Sisters, Charlene Werkheiser and Lorraine Gray; and brother, Gerald Dole.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Highland Cemetery in Pearl City, IL at 2:30 PM followed by a memorial reception to celebrate Bob’s life at the Pearl City Park District Building on West South Street.
