Red is a big old lap dog and a true sweetheart
Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.
Red
This handsome 12-year-old American pit bull terrier was in a tough spot when he was surrendered to the Arizona Humane Society. Red was immediately transported to AHS’ animal-trauma hospital.
After a series of tests, it was found that this adorable pup was in need of medicine to treat his tick fever and ended up undergoing surgery to remove a mass prior to heading to a Foster Hero home to heal.
Had Red not been found when he was, he would have had a very poor prognosis. But now that this sweetheart is feeling better and being treated with lots of love and care, he is a whole new pup.
Absolutely loving of all people, Red is a puppy at heart who loves pretending to be a lap dog and simply enjoying his people’s company. Playing with other pups and rope toys are his favorites, but treats are gladly taken when offered. However, Red knows that there is no better reward than that of finding a forever family to live out the rest of his days in comfort and love.
HOW TO ADOPT: Red is available for adoption today at noon at the Arizona Humane Society’s Campus for Compassion, 1521 W. Dobbins Road in Phoenix. Red’s adoption fee includes his neuter surgery, current vaccinations, a microchip and a free follow-up wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital.
