Talking Stick Resort and Casino needs repairs before reopening

- Lorraine Longhi

Talking Stick Resort and Casino near Scottsdale won’t reopen today as originally planned because more time is needed to repair extensive damage caused by a monsoon storm, officials said in a statement on Friday.

The storm caused a major power outage at the hotel and casino Aug. 11, forcing the casino to evacuate players, about 600 hotel guests and employees.

“Daily assessments have revealed that more time is needed to complete storm damage repairs and to replace the equipment required to ensure the property is up to the highest level of standards to which our guests have grown accustomed,” the statement read.

Water from multiple storms flowed into the area where the main and backup generators were housed, causing serious water damage, the casino said in a previous statement released Monday.

“Teams have been working on cleanup non-stop while the operations team is assessing options for access to power and a phased reopening plan,” the statement read.

Officials for the hotel, located on the Salt River Reservation near Loop 101 and Indian Bend Road, said they are contacting guests with reservations to reschedule their stays or to be relocated to nearby hotel properties.

Guests with reservations can contact the hotel at 866-877-9897.

Events on hold

Resort officials said Monday that five events had been canceled while the casino conducted repairs this week. They included:

❚ Arizona State Poker Championship - Aug. 10-14.

❚ Progressive Tuesdays - Aug. 14.

❚ Keno Tournament - Aug. 16.

❚ Esports Arizona: Red Bull Conquest - Aug. 18.

❚ 3LAU + Elephante pool party - Aug. 18.

Several of the events have been postponed to later dates.

The Keno Tournament was moved to Casino Arizona, another venue which, like Talking Stick, is owned and operated by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community off Loop 101 at McKellips Road.

“When possible, many promotional and entertainment opportunities will continue at our sister property, Casino Arizona,” casino officials said in Friday’s statement.
