PRESCOTT VALLEY – Paula (PJ) Ames died April 22, 2018 in Prescott Valley, AZ after a long illness. She was born November 15, 1945 in Phoenix, AZ, the 6th child of Charles B. and Nina T. Gass.

PJ loved her family and friends and cheered all who came in contact with her. Her interests and hobbies included her many pets, gardening, classic cars, cooking, sewing, music, dancing and cowboy poetry.

PJ worked at Encanto Park’s concession stand and in the nursery industry for years at Sorrell’s Nursery in Phoenix and, more recently, at Watters Nursery in Prescott. As a creative merchandis­er, she achieved a “Salesperso­n of the Year” award. PJ also earned a “Master Gardener” certificat­e. She enjoyed answering gardening questions and helping friends and customers with planting and with identifyin­g plants. Her home was surrounded by trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables.

PJ graduated from St. Gregory’s Elementary School, St. Mary’s High School and Phoenix College. She is preceded in death by husbands Dale Stone (1970) and Eugene Ames (1988) and by her brother Bernie Gass. PJ is loved and survived by siblings Antoinette (Toni) Doles, Lynda Garnand, Ronald Gass, Madelyn Kelly, Richard Gass, Monica Barnekoff, Victor Gass and Jerry Gass.

The family wishes to thank her many friends who helped her through her lengthy illness. Her life will be celebrated at a family gathering in Phoenix, Az. Donations can be made to the Scleroderm­a Foundation in the name of Paula J. Ames.
