Joanne Emma Sellards

SURPRISE – Joanne Emma “Jo-Jo”, 43, of Surprise, Arizona, grew her angel wings on August 09, 2018. Jo had Sean, Brandon and her beloved friends by her side as she left her earthly body. Jo came from the UK to the US in 1994. She pursued a career in the dental field and enjoyed supporting her patients. Jo gave birth to her son Brandon in 2001. Shortly after, she met Sean and the three became a family. Sean and Jo married on November 22, 2008. Prior to their engagement, Jo was diagnosed with MS. She battled through MS for seven years and was then diagnosed with cancer in 2015. She courageously continued that battle, fighting cervical cancer with multiple metastasis over the course of three years. With the continued love and support of her family and friends, she continued to fend off the on-going progression of the disease. It was then decided that heaven needed another angel and God freed her from the pain and restrictions of her earthly vessel and called her home. With Jo’s personality and perseverance, you’d never know she was pushing through the battle she was given. Jo’s filter-free, British sense of humor left all who spoke with her knowing exactly where they stood with her and exactly what she was thinking. Throughout all of the pain and procedures she endured, Jo maintained a positive outlook. She would tell anyone who asked, “I got this. This too shall pass.” Jo never complained. She maintained her sense of humor, her generosity and her love of shopping and gift giving for not only her family, but everyone she knew throughout her entire battle. Jo loved football! She loved her Arizona Cardinals! Her favorite moments were tailgating with family and friends and watching her favorite team win. Jo embraced the small moments of life and made them meaningful to all around her. As Jo endured through her battle, her main concern was always for the wellbeing of her son and husband. She did not accept the word “quit”. All can still see this today as her vehicle license plate says, “wontgiveup”. Jo is survived by her husband, Sean Sellards; son, Brandon Sellards; parents, Keith McGowan and Daphne Gentle; and sister, Karen Gentle.
